Next person biography:
Indira Stefanianna Christopherson is an American actress and singer of Icelandic descent, born in 1946 in San Francisco to emigrant parents. Her father was Lorne Christopherson, born and raised in Manitoba, Canada, and her mother was Hrafnhildur Snorradóttir, born and raised in Iceland. Christopherson's mother taught her how to sing at an early age, using nursery rhymes as practice materials. She dreamed of a professional performing career since childhood.
Christopherson received voice and piano lessons at the Peninsula Conservatory of Music and went on to attend the College of San Mateo and San Francisco State University. She moved to Iceland for a while in the late 1960s, where she started her singing career and was able to sing in several languages.
Returning to the United States, Christopherson pursued a theatrical career, performing at The Public Theater in New York City and in off-Broadway productions. She made television appearances, guest starring in sitcoms and comedy Westerns, before landing her first major role as Daphne Blake in the animated series "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!" (1969-1970).
Christopherson quit the series before the broadcast of its first season and married artist Rabindra Danks in 1969. The couple moved back to New York City, and Christopherson was replaced by Heather North for the second season of "Scooby-Doo". The marriage lasted until 1980, ending in divorce.
Christopherson had minor roles in films, including "The Grasshopper" (1970) and "Wicked, Wicked" (1973),and guest-starred in several television shows. She became known for penning and singing commercial jingles and songs, and wrote the lyrics for the song "Crystal of a Star" for the science fiction horror film "Star Crystal" (1986).
By 2022, Christopherson was semi-retired, having provided voice-overs for Scholastic Media's projects. She is still well-regarded by animation fans for her performances in classic animated series of the late 1960s, but has otherwise remained out of the spotlight for decades.
