James Michael Curtin, better known by his ring names Rockstar Spud and Drake Maverick, is a renowned English professional wrestler currently signed to WWE's 205 Live brand. He is a two-time and current 24/7 Champion, holding the title alongside his on-screen General Manager role for the 205 Live brand.
Born on January 30, 1983, in Birmingham, Curtin began his wrestling career under the tutelage of Jack Storm, Chris Gilbert, and "Charming" Don Charles at the K-Star Wrestling promotion and SAS Wrestling Academy. He debuted as Spud in 2003, performing in various independent promotions across the United Kingdom, the United States, and Europe.
Spud's early career saw him compete in the Revolution British Wrestling promotion, where he became the first British Welterweight Champion in August 2003. He later joined Frontier Wrestling Alliance, working as a jobber before being brought up to the main roster to compete in the flyweight division. In 2005, Spud entered a tournament to crown the FWA Flyweight Champion, ultimately losing to Ross Jordan.
Curtin's feud with Jordan lasted over 14 months, with the two engaging in a series of matches and promos. The feud culminated in a Last Man Standing match at FWA Last Fight at the Prom in September 2006, which Spud won.
In October 2017, Curtin signed with WWE, but had to delay his debut due to visa issues. He eventually debuted as Drake Maverick on January 30, 2018, and was announced as the new General Manager of 205 Live. Maverick's early storyline saw him scheduling a 16-man WWE Cruiserweight Championship tournament, which culminated at WrestleMania 34.
As Maverick, he turned heel in September 2018, accompanying the tag team AOP to the ring and announcing himself as their new manager. He led AOP to their first reign as Raw Tag Team Champions on November 5, 2018, and continued to manage the team throughout 2019.
