Jaroslav Dušek is a multifaceted artist, renowned for his exceptional skills in improvisation, stage acting, and direction, in addition to his impressive work in film acting, moderation, librettism, and screenwriting.
Following his graduation from gymnasium, Dušek embarked on a journey of mentorship, teaching authorial acting and stage improvisation at the prestigious Lidové konzervatoři. During his tenure, he had the privilege of serving as an assistant to the esteemed Ivan Vyskočil, whose innovative approach to authorial theater had a profound impact on Dušek's artistic development.
Following the significant and transformative events of the Velvet Revolution in the year 1989, Dušek embarked on a new chapter in his professional journey, choosing to dedicate his time and expertise to the esteemed Konzervatoři J. Ježka institution.
As his career progressed, Dušek moved on to the prestigious FAMU, where he made a lasting impact by sharing his knowledge and skills with the next generation of artists and creatives. His teaching prowess did not go unnoticed, as he also had the privilege of mentoring students at the renowned JAMU and DAMU institutions.
Among his notable protégés were the talented Ester Kočičková and Jiří Macháček, who would go on to make significant contributions to their respective fields.
Dušek's multifaceted endeavors encompass a vast array of creative pursuits, with a particularly notable endeavor being the establishment of the Vizita theater in collaboration with Jan Born in 1981.
As a thespian, Dušek has had a diverse range of roles, with a noticeable trend towards comedic parts in recent years. However, his acting style is most compelling when he is tasked with portraying characters that demand a certain level of stylization or even venture into the realm of the grotesque, as exemplified by his performances in the musical "KOUŘ" and the film "VRAŤ SE DO HROBU".
Jan Hřebejk skillfully leveraged Dušek's remarkable comedic abilities in a string of successful films, including the critically acclaimed "PELÍŠKY", "MUSÍME SI POMÁHAT", and "PUPENDO". Additionally, Dušek made memorable appearances in the Academy Award-nominated film "ŽELARY", a low-budget horror film that sent shivers down the spines of audiences everywhere, titled "CHOKING HAZARD", and the surreal, dreamlike cinematic masterpiece "ŠÍLENÍ" directed by the renowned Švankmajer.
