Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the First Partner of California, is a multifaceted individual who wears many hats as a filmmaker, advocate, and thought leader. After graduating with honors from Stanford University and Stanford's Graduate School of Business, she embarked on a creative journey that would take her to new heights.
Her most notable achievement is the 2011 award-winning documentary Miss Representation, which made its national broadcast debut on OWN: the Oprah Winfrey Network on October 20th, 2011. The documentary's impact was immense, and as a result, Siebel Newsom launched The Representation Project, a nonprofit organization that utilizes film and media as a catalyst for cultural transformation.
In addition to her work with The Representation Project, Siebel Newsom is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Girls Club Entertainment, LLC, a film production company dedicated to developing independent films that empower women. Her second film as a director, The Mask You Live In (2015),premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and delves into the harmful effects of America's narrow definition of masculinity on boys, men, and society.
Her third film, The Great American Lie (2020),explores the underlying cultural causes of inequality in America. Siebel Newsom has also had a hand in the production of several other notable documentaries, including The Invisible War (2012),which earned an Emmy Award, and The Hunting Ground (2015),which also took home an Emmy Award.
As an advocate, Siebel Newsom has served on the global advisory board of the Dove Self Esteem Project, co-chaired We Day California, and been a commissioner on the Girl Scouts' Healthy Media Commission. She is currently a member of the advisory council for the Imagine Kids Bus Project.
In addition to her work as a filmmaker and advocate, Siebel Newsom has also had a successful career as an actress, appearing in numerous films and television shows such as In the Valley of Elah (2007),Something's Gotta Give (2003),Rent (2005),Life (2007),Mad Men (2007),The Nanny Express (2008),Trauma (2009),and Numb3rs (2005).
Siebel Newsom is married to California Governor Gavin Newsom and they have four young children.
