Biography

James Frederick Hogshire, a counterculture author, was born in 1958 in Indianapolis, Indiana. His literary endeavors have been published in various esteemed magazines, including Harper's, Gentleman's Quarterly, Details, Esquire, CovertAction Quarterly, Omni, FAIR, The Animal's Agenda, and Lies of Our Times. As of 2010, he resided in Seattle, Washington.

Hogshire's creative endeavors have also transcended the written word, with one of his infamous prank calls, "Bacon and Eggs," being adapted into a short film in 1993, starring Linda Blair and Bill Pullman. In 2006, Universal Studios released a movie adaptation of his non-fiction guide, "You Are Going to Prison," titled "Let's Go to Prison," starring Will Arnett and directed by Bob Odenkirk.

Feral House released an updated version of Hogshire's book, "Opium for the Masses," in 2009. One of his notable short stories, "The Electric Cough-Syrup Acid Test," was excerpted by Harper's and has also appeared in the book "White Rabbit," as well as a book about zines. The story initially appeared in Hogshire's zine, "Pills a Go Go."

Hogshire's writing has also been featured in a cover article titled "Animals and Islam" in The Animals Agenda, October 1991. Prior to his writing career, he worked as a writer for the tabloid "National Examiner" between 1990 and 1991, often using the pseudonym "Chet Antonini."
