Biography

Jody Lee Lipes is a renowned director of photography, having received nominations for Primetime Emmy and Independent Spirit Awards for his exceptional work in the industry.

As the only cinematographer to achieve back-to-back Best Cinematography in Television wins in the 70-year history of the British Society of Cinematographers' Awards, Lipes has solidified his position as a master of his craft.

Throughout his illustrious career, he has had the privilege of working with some of the most acclaimed directors in the industry, including Derek Cianfrance, Kenneth Lonergan, Savanah Leaf, Marielle Heller, Sean Durkin, Lena Dunham, Tobias Lindholm, Judd Apatow, and Antonio Campos, to name a few.

Some of his notable projects include the Emmy-winning limited series "I Know This Much Is True" starring Mark Ruffalo, the Oscar-winning "Manchester by the Sea" starring Casey Affleck, the BAFTA-winning "Earth Mama", the Oscar-nominated "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" starring Tom Hanks, the Emmy-nominated limited series "Dead Ringers" starring Rachel Weiss, and the Sundance Film Festival Best Director Award-winning "Martha Marcy May Marlene" starring Elizabeth Olsen.

Additionally, he has worked on the Independent Spirit Award-winning "Tiny Furniture" and the Emmy-winning "Girls", as well as the BAFTA and Golden Globe-nominated "The Good Nurse" starring Eddie Redmayne and Jessica Chastain, and the Golden Globe-nominated "Trainwreck" starring Amy Schumer.

Jody has also collaborated with notable directors such as Brady Corbet, Jerrod Carmichael, Mark Romanek, Miles Jay, and Darius Marder, to name a few.

Currently, he is working on the Golden Lion-winning film "I Don't Work for Peanuts I Work for God" by auteur Andrew Dominik, as well as the limited series "The Listeners" produced by Element Pictures and directed by renowned filmmaker Janicza Bravo, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and the BFI London Film Festival in 2024.

As a member of several prestigious organizations, including the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC),the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS),the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA),the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS),The Director's Guild of America (DGA),and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE),Jody continues to make significant contributions to the film and television industry.
