Joel Edgerton, a talented actor, grew up in rural North Western Australia with a passion to become a rock star and tour the world. He started his music career early, supporting notable bands and having his original music played on ABC National Radio. Additionally, he represented WA in Soccer and trained for the Western Australian Football League. However, Joel surprised himself by moving to Brazil as a Rotary International Exchange Student, where he lived for a year, touring with local bands, learning Portuguese, and exploring the culture.
Upon returning to Karratha, Joel's mother encouraged him to audition for NIDA and WAAPA. Despite never having read a play before, Joel was accepted into both institutions and chose to attend NIDA. He was recognized as the region's 2010 Young Australian of the Year and graduated from NIDA in 2013.
Joel's breakthrough role came in 2014 when he won the role of Charles Bean in Foxtel's Deadline Gallipoli, alongside a talented cast, including Sam Worthington, Hugh Dancy, and Rachel Griffiths. The show received rave reviews and was recognized with 8 AACTA nominations, including Best Actor for Joel's performance.
In 2015, Joel starred in Channel 7's miniseries biopic of Peter Allen, Peter Allen; Not the Boy Next Door, playing the title role. The show was recognized as one of the best TV dramas of the year, garnering 10 AACTA nominations, including Best Actor for Joel's depiction of Peter Allen.
Joel continues to seek out great stories and work with talented cast and crews. He is also a proud ambassador of Redkite, a children's charity supporting families fighting youth cancer. In 2015, he participated in Western Australia's charity event Telethon, raising over $800,000 single-handedly.
