Johanna Thea's acting career is marked by her genuine and playful approach to her craft. Born in Westminster, but raised on the West Coast of Ireland, Johanna's cultural background is a unique blend of Jamaican, Indian, Swiss, and English heritage. As the daughter of a professional international dancer/singer and a teacher/charity worker, she is the first actor in her family to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.
Throughout her career, Johanna has worked predominantly in film, earning recognition for her performances in various projects. She received an Honourable mention as Best Actress in the Independent Short Awards (LA, 2022) for her role in the thriller "Disquiet". Additionally, she was shortlisted for "best actress in a web-series" by Screennation (2018) for her portrayal of Eva in the British Indie thriller "Resolve".
Johanna's film credits also include the mental health awareness film "Struggle", which won multiple awards, and her Irish debut "When Next Possible Taka a U-Turn", which was shortlisted at both Catalyst & Linear international film festivals, winning Best LGBT+ Film of the year in 2019. Her performance in "The Wind Cries", in which she plays Laurie Lovely, was shortlisted in the Oscar qualifying festival Dances with Film (L.A.),which she attended.
Outside of acting, Johanna holds an Honours BSc and MSc in Psychology and Neuroscience from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IOPPN). She is a passionate writer, having published her autobiography in short stories, "If Only You Knew", on Amazon. Johanna has also written commissioned well-being articles, which are available online.
As a model, Johanna was scouted at the age of 16 and has worked with various brands, including Range Rover, Meaty Bites (USA),José Hendo, Isabelle Deringo (during LA fashion week),and appeared in campaigns for DIAGEO, TFI, Aviva Healthcare, and more. She has also been featured as the cover girl for DIVA magazine.
