John Brownlow's academic journey commenced at Grammar Schools in Retford and Aylesbury, where he laid the foundation for his future pursuits. Subsequently, he ventured to Keble College, Oxford to delve into the realm of Mathematics, but after a year, he underwent a profound transformation, opting to redirect his focus towards English Language and Literature.
Prior to his foray into the film industry, Brownlow accumulated a diverse array of professional experiences, including stints as a computer systems programmer, rocket scientist, interactive games writer, and music journalist.
Brownlow's foray into British television began in 1990, where he commenced as a researcher on documentaries, rapidly ascending the ranks to assume the roles of producer and director on a plethora of acclaimed British TV documentaries. His oeuvre encompassed a wide range of genres, from hard-hitting investigative pieces to innovative historical series and feature-length documentaries.
In 1999, Brownlow made the transition to full-time screenwriting, a trajectory he has maintained ever since. Currently, he is developing a feature film slated for release in 2004. In addition to his writing and directing endeavors, Brownlow is also a renowned street photographer.
