John McNamara is a multifaceted individual, wearing many hats as a writer, producer, show-runner, and television creator. His notable works include the feature film "Trumbo", for which Bryan Cranston received an Oscar nomination, and the television series "Aquarius" and "The Magicians".
As a principal founder of Fabrication, a TV production company, McNamara has been instrumental in creating the Apple TV+ series "Physical" alongside Alexandra Cunningham and Sera Gamble.
Born and raised in Michigan, McNamara's academic background includes a stint at the University of Michigan and New York University. During his time at NYU, he authored two children's books and an original teleplay for the CBS Afternoon Playhouse. His play "Present Tense" won the first annual Young Playwrights' competition in 1982 and was later produced off-Broadway at the Circle Rep Theatre.
After moving to Los Angeles in 1984, McNamara began his career as a screenwriter, working for major studios such as Disney, Warner Bros., and Paramount. He went on to become a staff writer on the Fox TV series "The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr." and later joined ABC's "Lois and Clark" as a writer and producer.
Throughout his career, McNamara has co-created and executive produced several critically-acclaimed television series, including "Profit", "Vengeance Unlimited", "The Fugitive", "Fastlane", "Eyes", and "In Plain Sight".
