Jovanka Vuckovic is a multifaceted creative force, boasting a storied career as both a writer and filmmaker. Her journey began in the realm of broadcasting, where she honed her skills as a visual effects artist, ultimately earning a prestigious Gemini Award for Best Visual Effects. This achievement served as a springboard for her subsequent role as editor of the esteemed horror publication Rue Morgue Magazine, a position she held for six and a half years.
Under her leadership, the magazine's doors swung open, welcoming more women to the horror genre and solidifying her status as a trailblazer. Vuckovic's influence has been recognized twice, with her being named one of the most influential women in horror alongside the likes of Kathryn Bigelow, Debra Hill, and Mary Shelley.
As a filmmaker, Vuckovic has taken the reins, writing and directing her own films. A champion of gender equality in film, Vuckovic has been an outspoken advocate for women's representation in the industry.
In 2016, she took the helm as executive producer and director of a segment for XX, the groundbreaking all-female horror anthology from XYZ Films/Magnet Releasing. The film premiered at Sundance in 2017, further cementing Vuckovic's reputation as a force to be reckoned with. A proud member of both The Directors Guild of America and The Directors Guild of Canada, Vuckovic has also ventured into literary territory, authoring Zombies! An Illustrated History of the Undead, with a foreword by the legendary George Romero.
