Biography

Judd Alan Gregg, born on February 14, 1947, is an American politician and attorney who held significant public offices.

He served as the 76th governor of New Hampshire from 1989 to 1993, followed by a 18-year tenure as a United States senator from New Hampshire from 1993 to 2011.

During his time in the Senate, Gregg held important committee positions, including Chairman of the Health Committee and the Budget Committee.

Prior to his political career, Gregg was a businessman and attorney in Nashua, New Hampshire.

Currently, he serves as the Chair of the Public Advisory Board at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College.

Gregg was initially nominated as Secretary of Commerce in President Barack Obama's Cabinet but withdrew his name from consideration on February 12, 2009.

He decided not to run for reelection to the Senate in 2010, and former State Attorney General Kelly Ayotte succeeded him.

In May 2011, Goldman Sachs announced that Gregg had been named an international advisor to the firm.

A year later, in May 2013, Gregg was appointed CEO of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, a prominent Wall Street lobbying group.

However, he stepped down as CEO in December 2013 and took on the role of senior adviser.

Gregg has been involved in several presidential election campaigns, endorsing former Florida Governor Jeb Bush in 2016, Ohio Governor John Kasich after Bush's suspension, and most recently, Nikki Haley in the 2024 Republican Party presidential primary.
