Karl Hamann's life story begins in Los Angeles, where he was born and raised, with experiences in both northern and southern California. His professional journey has taken him to work with renowned directors such as J.J. Abrams, known for his work on Alias, and David Dobkin, director of Mr. Woodcock. Hamann's television credits include appearances in network series and independent feature films.
However, his love affair with the theater began when he was stage manager of a 1,300-seat school theater, where he had the opportunity to work with esteemed national touring companies like The Martha Graham Dance Company and National Theater for the Deaf.
At the University of California, Berkeley, Hamann was a founding member of The Yam Complex, an independent student group that wrote, produced, and performed plays and street theater. Additionally, he co-founded and co-directed an improvisational ensemble class inspired by The Open Theater, Grotowski, and Het Werkteater of Amsterdam.
Upon moving to New York City, Hamann wrote, produced, and performed satirical sketch comedy with his comedy duo Hamann/Abrams at La Mama Cabaret and The Westbank Downstairs Theater Bar, under the artistic direction of Lewis Black.
Today, Hamann resides in Los Angeles, where he continues to work in the film and television industry. His theatrical accomplishments include receiving an LA Weekly Theater Award and a Drama-Logue Award for his performance in the West Coast Premiere of The Adjustment.
