Kasimir's multifaceted approach to filmmaking has led him to explore various forms of storytelling, from scratch animation to installation film, documentary, and narrative film. His inquisitive and searching nature has driven him to delve into the realms where art, music, and film intersect, often collaborating with artists from diverse backgrounds, including painters, sculptors, philosophers, and writers.
Some of his notable collaborations include working with musicians such as The Black Chords and Missy Higgins, resulting in dynamic music videos that have garnered awards in both Australia and the United States. His debut feature film, FELL, premiered at the 2014 Sydney Film Festival, produced by veteran producer John Maynard, and has since screened at the Melbourne International Film Festival and the Glasgow Film Festival.
Kasimir's narrative short films often feature marginalized characters who find hope in the darkest of places, exploring universal themes that resonate with audiences from all walks of life. His films have screened in over thirty countries and have won twenty-five awards, including the Crystal Bear for best short film at the 2011 Berlin International Film Festival for LILY.
In addition to his filmmaking endeavors, Kasimir has also explored other cultures through his documentary work, directing a film on children affected by AIDS in PNG and teaching filmmaking in remote indigenous communities. He has also recorded important cultural songs on the Torres Straight Islands, which have been collected by institutions such as the National Gallery of Victoria, the Heidi Centre for Contemporary Art, the Melbourne Arts Centre, and the Australian Centre for The Moving Image.
His film, THE MAN WHO COULD NOT DREAM, a dark comedy short film featuring Geoffrey Rush and Alan Brough, premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival in 2012. Booth Story, a film that was awarded the Film of the Festival at the Raindance Film Festival in 2005, was a jury selection featuring Lou Reed, Dame Judy Dench, and Anton Corbijn.
