Kate Moran, a cult figure in auteur work, has been living and working in the vibrant cities of Paris and New York since receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting from the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.
With a career spanning numerous collaborations with renowned filmmakers, Kate has worked closely with Yann Gonzalez since his early days as a short film director. Gonzalez has written roles specifically for Kate in three short films, as well as his feature film debut, You and the Night, which premiered at the esteemed Cannes Film Festival in 2013. Kate also starred alongside Vanessa Paradis and Nicolas Maury in Gonzalez's second feature, Knife + Heart, which was in competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018.
Kate's creative journey has also been influenced by her encounter with Rebecca Zlotowski, with whom she co-wrote the theatre piece Contrechamp, which premiered at the Festival d'Avignon in 2015. Kate not only starred in the piece but also appeared in Zlotowski's film for the Opera de Paris, 3eme scene entitled 09/06/2015. Additionally, Kate made a notable appearance in Zlotowski's film Planetarium in 2016.
Bertrand Bonello, another influential collaborator, has worked with Kate on various projects, including his exhibition at the Pompidou Center in Paris, an adaptation of the cult classic Rose Poussiere by Jean-Jacques Schuhl, and his film Saint Laurent, which was released in 2014.
One of Kate's most iconic roles was in the opera Einstein on the Beach, created by Philip Glass and Robert Wilson in 1976. The opera was remounted by Glass and Wilson in 2012 and spent over three years touring worldwide, with Kate cast in the lead role originated by Lucinda Childs.
