Katya Wyeth was born to a solicitor father, Rex Wyeth, and a German mother who was a professional ballerina. As a child, she received her education in both Essex, England, and Hamburg, West Germany, being influenced by her mother's artistic background.
Katya initially pursued a career in ballet, training at the Theatre Royal, Windsor, but was forced to reevaluate her options due to her height of 5'9", which became a hindrance in the competitive world of ballet. She then turned to modeling and acting, which would become her primary focus for the remainder of her career.
Wyeth spent several years honing her craft in repertory theatre, working with the National Youth Theatre and appearing in various productions, including Dear Charles and Rebelais at London's Round House in 1971. She also worked as an assistant stage manager and understudy, and acted in a German film and television production.
Prior to her British screen career, Wyeth had made a brief appearance on BBC Television in 1964 in a play televised from the Ashcroft Theatre, Julius Caesar. However, it was not until the late 1960s that her British screen career truly began. Before then, she was working under the name Katherina Wyeth, which she later changed to Katya Wyeth in 1969.
Throughout the 1970s, Wyeth appeared in a wide range of television series, including Monty Python's Flying Circus, The Avengers, The Goodies, The Sweeney, and Space: 1999. She also hosted the game show The Sky's the Limit, presented by Hughie Green.
In addition to her television work, Wyeth appeared in several feature films, including the horror films Hands of the Ripper and Twins of Evil, as well as Burke & Hare. She also had a notable role in Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange, appearing alongside Malcolm McDowell in the 'Ascot fantasy' sequence that closes the film.
As the 1970s progressed and the British Film Industry began to decline, Wyeth found herself appearing in a number of low-brow exploitation films, including Confessions of a Window Cleaner and I'm Not Feeling Myself Tonight. Her final screen credit was in the film No. 1 of the Secret Service, a James Bond spoof directed by Lindsay Shonteff.
In her personal life, Wyeth was married to actor Michael Bangerter from 1971 until his death in 2016. The couple had two children, a son and a daughter.
