Noted composer, songwriter, choral director, conductor, arranger, singer, and author, educated at Christian College and mentored by renowned musicians such as Tibor Serly, Ernst Toch, Herman Hand, and Victor Young.
He founded the prestigious male vocal quartet, The King's Men, in 1929, and went on to appear on various platforms including radio, films, concerts, television, and recordings. Later, he led and arranged music for the esteemed Ken Darby Singers. In addition, he worked as a writer and production supervisor for Walt Disney Studios, and served as an associate producer for numerous record albums.
A member of ASCAP since 1946, his primary musical collaborator was the accomplished Gordon Jenkins. His notable popular-song compositions include "The Chool Song," "Love Song of Kalua," "Saga of the Ponderosa," "Ports of Paradise," "Merry Christmas Neighbor," "Endless Prairie," and "Whispering Wind."
