Lara Lindsay, born Gladys Jacobs in Chicago, discovered her passion for ice skating at a young age and went on to perform in the Icecapades and other professional shows by her teenage years. As she grew older, she married an interior designer and had a son born in 1963. However, her marriage eventually ended, and Lara found herself in Tucson, Arizona, where she began appearing in television commercials.
Her big break came when Paramount's El Dorado rolled into town, and she landed a stand-in part in the film. The experience led her to head to Hollywood, where she obtained an agent and adopted the stage name Lara Lindsay. The name Lara was inspired by the character from Doctor Zhivago, and Lindsay was her brother's first name. Lara also underwent extensive dental work to improve her smile.
20th Century Fox took notice of Lara's talent and good looks, and she was among the first students of their in-house star building school. She was signed to the studio in December 1966 and received significant promotional backing. However, by 1971, her film career had stalled, and she decided to try her hand behind the scenes. Lara eventually landed a job as an assistant to producer Saul David, and the two developed a romantic relationship.
Saul cast Lara in his film Logan's Run in 1976, marking her final appearance in a Hollywood film. Despite her brief time in the spotlight, Lara Lindsay left a lasting impression on the film industry.
