Leon Cheo is a multi-talented creator, writer, and director, having made a significant impact in the film industry with his various projects. He is the mastermind behind the Emmy-nominated short form series "People Like Us", showcasing his exceptional skills in storytelling and direction.
Recently, Leon was selected for season two of the prestigious Hillman Grad / Indeed Rising Voices program, where he has the privilege of being mentored by renowned director Destin Daniel Cretton on his latest short film, "The 25th Filial Exemplar". The film premiered at the esteemed Tribeca Film Festival in 2022, further solidifying Leon's reputation as a talented filmmaker.
Leon's impressive portfolio includes several award-winning films and commercials. One of his notable works is "SIN-SFO", which won Best Live Action and Best Director at the 2019 National Youth Film Awards in Singapore. The film also premiered in-competition at the Academy Award-qualifying 25th Austin Film Festival, a testament to its high caliber.
Leon's other notable works include "The Three Sisters", which won 'Best Short Film' at the 2012 NETPAC-Jogja Asian Film Festival, and "Move Out Notice", which broadcast on the Lifetime (Asia) channel and was nominated for Best Script at the Singapore Short Film Awards.
In addition to his film work, Leon has also collaborated with several prominent brands, including KFC, HSBC, 7-Eleven, Channel NewsAsia, Pink Dot SG, and government ministries and agencies.
Leon holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Creative Producing from Chapman University and a diploma in Film, Sound & Video from Ngee Ann Polytechnic. He is also an alumnus of several prestigious film programs, including Outfest InFusion (2016),Berlinale Talents (2014),Asian Film Academy (2013),and Talents Tokyo (2012).
