Liam McIntyre is a renowned Australian actor, having gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of the lead role in the critically acclaimed Starz television series Spartacus: Vengeance and Spartacus: War of the Damned. Prior to his rise to fame, McIntyre started his acting career by appearing in a multitude of short films, gradually making his way into the world of television by taking on guest roles in several popular Australian series, including Rush and Neighbours.
McIntyre's US television debut came in the form of a guest appearance in the award-nominated HBO mini-series The Pacific, further solidifying his presence in the industry. However, his journey took an unexpected turn when he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma in 2010.
Andy Whitfield, the original lead actor for the Starz television series Spartacus, initially took a temporary break from filming the title role due to his diagnosis. Unfortunately, his cancer recurred, leading him to withdraw from the role entirely, prior to his untimely passing. McIntyre was subsequently cast as the new lead, taking over the role for the remaining two seasons of the series.
The production of the second season of Spartacus resumed in the fall of 2011, with the series premiering on January 27, 2012.
