Madan Lal Puri was born in 1915 to S. Nihal Chanda Puri and Ved Kaur, and he had four siblings, consisting of an elder brother named Chaman Lal Puri, two younger brothers named Amrish Puri and Harish Lal Puri, and a younger sister named Chandrakanta Mehra.
He was the first cousin of the legendary singer K.L. Saigal, and he was affectionately known as "Maddie Uncle" to the younger generation.
Puri had three sons, Pravesh Puri, Kamlesh Puri, and Ramnesh Puri, who are all based in Mumbai. Pravesh Puri has a grandson named Vikram Puri, Kamlesh Puri has granddaughters named Kanchan Puri and Sonal Puri, and Ramnesh Puri has a grandson named Amrit Puri and a granddaughter named Ishita Puri.
Madan Lal Puri passed away in 1985 at the age of 69 due to a heart attack, and he was a resident of Venus Apartments, "F", 11th floor, on Worli Seaface in Mumbai.
Despite his passing, several films were released after his death, with his final film being Santosh, which was released in 1989.
