Biography

Manuel Villarreal, a trailblazing figure in the world of film, proudly identifies as a gay, first-generation Mexican-American writer and director, currently residing in the vibrant city of Los Angeles.

Throughout his illustrious career, Villarreal has made a name for himself with his exceptional short films, "WHAT THE WATER GAVE" and "I'M STILL HERE". These masterpieces have garnered significant recognition, earning finalist spots at the prestigious NewFilmmakers LA Video Project and Outfest Fusion Film Festival, respectively.

Prior to his successful foray into directing, Villarreal honed his skills as an actor, appearing in a multitude of commercials, including the coveted Super Bowl ads for Carl's Jr. and Kay Jewelers.

Villarreal's academic background is marked by his impressive BA in Screenwriting from California State University, Northridge, as well as his MFA in Directing from the esteemed AFI Conservatory.

With a deep passion for storytelling, Villarreal hopes to utilize magical realism and the rich folklore of his heritage to challenge the prevailing stereotypes associated with Latinos across the United States.
