Marianne R. Nelson, Marcus's mother, hails from a rich Berliner heritage, being a three-generation descendant of Emil Stein, who was the esteemed publisher of "Vorwarts", a prominent Jewish and social democratic newspaper, from 1891 to 1933. Marcus's upbringing was marked by bilingualism, and he has had the privilege of living in various cosmopolitan cities, including Berlin, Paris, New York City, and Austin, Texas, before settling in Los Angeles.
