Named by Variety as "talent to watch", Maria Burton has established herself as a prominent figure in the film industry, having directed six successful independent feature films, with the latest ones available on Netflix and Amazon.
Her most recent projects include "A Sort of Homecoming", a film featuring Laura Marano and Katherine McNamara, and "For the Love of George", which boasts an impressive cast including Rosanna Arquette, Tate Donovan, Rex Lee, and Kristen Johnston.
Burton's earlier films include "Just Friends", "Temps", and "Manna from Heaven", released through MGM/SONY.
Through her production company, Five Sisters Productions, which she runs with her real-life siblings, Burton directed the pilot for the Emmy qualifying short form series "Old Guy" and produced films such as "Kings, Queens & In-Betweens" and "Julia Sweeney's 'Letting Go of God'", which aired on Showtime.
Burton has been selected for various television directing programs, including the DGA's DDI Emerging Directors Mentorship, Disney/ABC's Directing Program, the CBS Directing Initiative, Ryan Murphy's HALF, SONY's Diverse Directors, and ProjectHER, for which she wrote and directed the short pilot "Good Eggs".
In addition to her work in film and television, Burton has also served on the National Board of the DGA, as Co-Chair of the DGA's WSC and DGA's Council of Joint Co-Chairs, and past Co-Chair of Alliance of Women Directors. She is also a member of Film Fatales.
Currently, Burton is preparing to direct an indie film, "MidLife", and is developing projects including "Searching for Tamsen Donner", based on her mother's award-winning books, and "Mercury 13", a drama inspired by the women tested for the original astronaut program, which has been named to the Athena List, the BitchList/Bechdel List, won a CineStory Fellowship, and is a Nicholl Quarterfinalist.
