Biography

Mark Blane is a bi-coastal actor, director, and writer from Indiana, known for his work in the 16mm feature film CUBBY, which premiered in competition at the Torino LGBTQI festival. CUBBY had a limited theatrical run in New York and Los Angeles after playing over 30 film festivals, including the Inside Out Toronto festival, where it was nominated for the Innovation Award, and the Frameline festival, where it was nominated for Best First Feature.

Grant support for CUBBY included funding from Kodak, the Leslie Lohman Museum for Lesbian and Gay Art, the Gotham Narrative Film Lab, Formfunction, and the Brooklyn Arts Council. Blane also wrote and directed GHOST BIKE, which premiered at the LA Pan African Film Festival, and acted alongside Tamara Tunie.

His Portuguese iPhone-shot pilot, ASSASSINO AMERICANO AMNÉSICO, is set to premiere in competition in Italy in 2023. Blane has also appeared in six episodes of the JJ Abrams-produced AppleTV+ show LITTLE VOICE, directed by Jessie Nelson and Chris Storer, and is the lead in the film THE APOLOGY.

Blane's performances have been praised by critics, with Fresh Tomato reviews describing his performance as "kaleidoscopic and engrossing" and comparing him to Zach Galifianakis and James Bidgood. He has been lauded by publications such as the LA Times, IndieWire, and The Advocate.

In addition to his work in film, Blane has also been a playwright, with his play THE ROCK & THE RIPE being commissioned by the Hetrick-Martin Institute and Rosie O'Donnell's Theater Kids. He has taught filmmaking to seniors through the SU-CASA program in Brooklyn and has been a visiting artist at Syracuse University, Virginia Tech, and Northwestern University.

Blane is repped as an actor by Tyler Kahl at Allegory and Nelson Paredez and Garrett Lindsay at The ESI Network.
