James Maury Henson was born on September 24, 1936, in Greenville, Mississippi. He grew up in Leland, Mississippi, and developed an early interest in puppetry and creating characters. After serving in the United States Army, Henson moved to New York City, where he began his career in television, working as a puppeteer and designer for various shows, including "Sesame Street". He went on to create his own production company, The Jim Henson Company, and produced numerous films, television shows, and commercials, including the beloved Muppets characters.
