Michael Maren is a seasoned individual with a rich background in humanitarian work, having spent a significant portion of his life in Africa. His extensive experience as a Peace Corps volunteer, aid worker, and war correspondent has taken him to various hotspots on the continent, including Somalia, Sudan, Ethiopia, and other war-torn areas, where he has witnessed and documented wars, famines, and other humanitarian crises.
Over the course of his remarkable career, Maren has developed a unique perspective on the complexities of foreign aid and its impact on affected communities. His book, "The Road to Hell", published in 1999, provides a candid account of his experiences in Somalia and the challenges faced by aid workers in the region. Following the publication of his book, Maren transitioned to a career in screenwriting, selling scripts to prominent production companies such as HBO and Sony, as well as independent producers.
