Michael Mus'scal biography:
Michael Muscal attended the University of North Carolina on a soccer scholarship after being named an All South Jersey performer in high school. He graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and then moved to Houston, Texas, where he worked at the Texas Heart Institute, videotaping open heart surgery for the renowned Dr. Denton Cooley.
Muscal's career in the motion picture industry began with his work as a Unit Production Manager on the cult classic film "Re-Animator." He went on to UPM several more low-budget horror films, including "The Bride of Re-Animator." His work on the visual effects test shots for Disney's "The Teenie Weenies" led to him being kept on board to coordinate the visual effects for the blockbuster hit "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids," which won the British Academy Award for Best Achievement in Visual Effects.
Muscal received an Emmy Nomination for his work on the HBO original movie "The Tuskegee Airmen" and produced the effects for the remake of "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman" starring Darryl Hannah. The film was the highest-rated cable movie of all time. He also worked on the effects-laden film "Witch Hunt" with director Paul Schrader.
In the late 1990s, Muscal transitioned from visual effects to producing, teaming up with British distributor Hamish McAlpine to produce a trilogy of serial killer films, including "Ed Gein," "Ted Bundy," and "The Hillside Strangler." "Ed Gein" won Best Picture at the 2000 Sitges International Horror Film Festival.
Muscal has Co-Produced or Produced four highly touted genre films that were either nominated or named Best Picture at renowned Sitges, including "Re-Animator," "Bride of Re-Animator," "Ed Gein," and "Ted Bundy."
In 2008, Muscal made his directorial debut with the horror-comedy "Little F*cker," which was named Best Comedy at the High Times magazine 2010 World Marijuana Film Festival. He has also written the original screenplay and executive produced the high school horror thriller "Detention," starring David Carradine.
Muscal has produced several other films, including the dark comedy "Suicide Notes," which won several awards, including Critic's Choice Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Actress. He has also produced the critically acclaimed short "The Rolling Road" and the horror thriller "KILD TV," which has won six "Best Picture" Awards.
In 2020, Muscal Co-Wrote the Story and was Associate Producer on the horror thriller "Girl Next," which is now ready for distribution.
