Michael Sucsy is a renowned filmmaker, acclaimed for his exceptional work in directing, screenwriting, and producing numerous projects. He is particularly recognized for his groundbreaking HBO film "Grey Gardens", which earned him a plethora of prestigious awards, including a Golden Globe, Emmy, and PGA Award.
Born and raised in New York and New England, Sucsy's early life was marked by a strong interest in international relations, which led him to pursue a degree in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. Prior to attending graduate school, he gained extensive production experience by working on various films, television shows, and commercials.
After earning a Master of Fine Arts in film from the Art Center College of Design, Sucsy began his career in the industry by directing commercials, which earned him a nomination for the Young Director of the Year Award at the 2002 Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.
Sucsy's directing debut, "Grey Gardens", was met with widespread critical acclaim, earning him a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award for Best Picture, as well as nominations for the WGA Award and the DGA Award. The film went on to win a total of 2 Golden Globes and 6 Emmys, setting a record with 17 Emmy nominations. The film also received top honors from the Producers Guild of America, American Cinema Editors, Art Directors Guild, Cinema Audio Society, Costume Designers Guild, and Casting Society of America.
Sucsy's subsequent project, "The Vow" (Sony),starring Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams, opened with a massive $42MM weekend and went on to gross $200MM worldwide.
Sucsy currently resides in Los Angeles with his husband, Demitri Sgourakis.
