Biography

Miguel Angel Caballero, a Queer Mexican-American/Chicano writer, director, and producer, is the son of Mexican immigrant farm workers. His passion for storytelling began at a young age, despite his limited English proficiency, as he would make up storylines in real-time while interpreting reruns of "Little House On The Prairie" for his grandma.

Miguel received his bachelor's degree in Theater from the School of Theater, Film & Television at UCLA, where he developed a profound understanding of character development, emotional nuances, and the collaborative nature of filmmaking. As a former actor, he gained valuable experience in understanding the intricacies of character development and emotional arcs, skills that have been instrumental in shaping him into a more empathetic, communicative, and nuanced Director today.

One of Miguel's greatest strengths is his ability to collaborate with and guide actors to mine and explore the emotional arcs of their characters. His films have collectively garnered 47 awards and recognitions, including the Humanitas Award and the Latinx Award at Holly Shorts for his sci-fi short "The Ballad of Tita and the Machines," which was executive produced by Lena Waithe and premiered at the Tribeca Festival and screened at TIFF (Rising Voices).

Miguel's short "Acuitzeramo" premiered at the Morelia International Film Festival and won the Imagen Award, while his film "Broken Sunflower Hearts" was named one of the year's 'Best Short Films' by U.S. Latino directors by Remezcla Magazine.

As a Film Independent Project Involve and Fast Track Fellow, and an Academy Gold Alumni from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences, Miguel has received numerous accolades and recognitions for his work. His feature film screenplay, "Angel In Retrograde," was selected for the Tribeca Untold Stories in 2023 and he won the Humanitas New Voices Award (2023-2024) and was named by the International Screenwriters Association (ISA ) as one of the top 25 screenwriters to watch.

Miguel is currently adapting a sci-fi novel for TV with his writing partner, Luis Antonio Aldana, for Ley Line Entertainment (Everything Everywhere All At Once).
