Mike Mills is a multifaceted artist, born in 1966 in Berkeley, California. He graduated from Cooper Union in 1989.
As a filmmaker, Mike has worked on various projects, including music videos, commercials, short films, documentaries, and feature films. His short film, Architecture of Reassurance, was featured in several film festivals, including Sundance, Edinburgh, and Oberhausen. He has also directed documentaries about the daily life of six boys in rural Minnesota, the world-famous skateboarder Ed Templeton, and the French band Air.
Mike co-founded The Directors Bureau with Roman Coppola in 1996, a multidisciplinary production company that represents various artists. He has directed music videos for several bands, including Air, Pulp, Everything but the Girl, and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.
As a graphic artist, Mike has designed CD covers for bands such as Sonic Youth, The Beastie Boys, and Buffalo Daughter. He has also created graphics for X-girl, a clothing company, and designed scarves and fabrics for Marc Jacobs.
In 1996, Mike released a 12" album filled with posters and graphic items, which was accompanied by a touring exhibition. In 2003, he started his own graphic line, "Humans," which includes fabrics, shirts, posters, and ribbons.
Mike's work has been exhibited in various galleries, including the Cooper Hewitt Museum's National Design Triennial, and he has received several awards for his work.
