Biography

Miskow Makwarth was the son of composer and conductor Ludwig Makwarth. He was educated at the Danish School Scene in 1926 and made his debut as an actor at the Aarhus Theatre in 1925, where he was affiliated from the 1926-27 to 1927-28 seasons.

He also took an instructional education, which gave him a debut with Kaj Munk's play "Smeltediglen". After a few years at Copenhagen's stages, including Dagmarteatret, Alléscenen, Det ny Teater, and touring, including as a guest at the National Theatre in Bergen, he returned to the Aarhus Theatre from 1938 to 1944 as a director, including outdoor performances from 1941-43.

He also directed festival plays, such as in Kalundborg and Viborg. He adapted and directed "The Little Mermaid" for the Pingklubben at the Nørrebros Teater in 1943 and a biblical Christmas play, in which he also played the Snake and the Devil, at Alléscenen in 44. There, he was director in 1944/45.

In 1959, he was at the Aveny Teatret as Izo in "Aunt Mamie", and in 60, he played the main role of Manufakturhandler Sort in "Syndebukken" at the Landsskolescenen. In 1961, he dubbed as Vanderbilt in "Knickerbocker Holiday" at the Folketeatret, and there, he was Brighella in "A Servant and Two Gentlemen" in 63.

He played Jeronimus in "Abracadabra" in the Old Town in Århus and toured with the Danish Folk Scene as Andreas Blegnæb in "Christmas Eve" in 62. At the Omegnsteatret in Gladsaxe, he played Apollion in "Romulus the Great" and the King in "The Dream".

He functioned as leader of festival plays at city jubilees, but his acting career also included major roles on numerous stages, such as as Henrik in "The Political Candelabra", Per Degn in "Erasmus Montanus", Fagin in "Oliver Twist", and Vielgeschrei in "The Timeless". Miskow Makwarth had most of his engagements at the Aarhus Theatre, Dagmar Theatre, Det ny Teater, and the National Theatre in Bergen.

In the latest years, he had smaller roles in the light repertoire on Copenhagen's stages, including the Amager Scene.
