Biography

Nadezhda Pavlova, a renowned ballerina, was born in Cheboksary, Chuvashskaya ASSR, RSFSR, USSR, into a large family with ethnic Chuvash parents. At the tender age of seven, she began studying in a choreographic circle at the House of Pioneers, which would lay the foundation for her future career.

In 1966, a commission from the Perm Choreographic School, searching for gifted children, discovered Nadya's exceptional talent and offered her a place to study in Perm. For seven years, from the 2nd grade until graduation, she was under the guidance of Lyudmila Pavlovna Sakharova, who combined the Moscow and Leningrad schools of classical dance with new trends emerging in the late 1960s.

After graduating from college in 1974, Nadezhda Pavlova became a soloist at the Perm Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after Tchaikovsky. Since September 1975, she has been a soloist at the Bolshoi Theater, where she has performed alongside her constant partner and later husband, Vyacheslav Gordeyev. Under the guidance of Messerer, she continued to hone her craft, mastering roles and perfecting her technique.

Throughout her illustrious career, Nadezhda Pavlova has held various leadership roles, including artistic director of the Nadezhda Pavlova Ballet Theater from 1992 to 1994 and the Renaissance Ballet in 1995. She was also a member of the jury for international ballet competitions in Luxembourg (1995) and Hong Kong (1996).

In 1999, she participated in the opening of the Russian Cultural Center in Washington and became a laureate of the Stars of World Ballet festival in Donetsk. From 1998 to 1999, she performed as a guest star in performances of the Russian Ballet troupe.

In 2000, Nadezhda Pavlova took on the role of teacher-repetiteur at the GITIS ballet theater under the direction of Akhundov. Since 2009, she has been a choreographer-repetiteur at the State Academic Theater of Classical Ballet under the direction of N.D. Kasatkina and V.Yu.

Additionally, she teaches at the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts (RATI) as a professor. Notably, she is the youngest artist to bear the title of People's Artist of the USSR, receiving this honor at the age of 28.
