Nilaja Sun is a multifaceted artist, exceling as an actor, playwright, and teaching artist. Her most renowned work is the Obie award-winning solo piece "No Child...", which premiered at the Barrow Street Theatre in July 2006 and ran for an extended period, including a recent revival.
For her groundbreaking creation and performance of "No Child...", Nilaja received an impressive 21 awards and nominations. These accolades include an Obie Award, a Lucille Lortel Award, two Outer Critics Circle Awards, including the John Gassner Playwriting Award for Outstanding New American Play, a Theatre World Award, the Helen Hayes Award, two NAACP Theatre Awards, and the Best One-Person Show at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen.
"No Child..." has been published and has been licensed to over 45 theatres across the nation since 2008. In addition to her theatrical work, Nilaja has also made appearances on popular television shows such as 30 Rock, Law & Order: SVU, Unforgettable, Louie, The International, Rubicon, and is set to appear in the independent films Nature Calls and Hairbrained in 2012.
Born and raised on the Lower East Side, Nilaja is a Princess Grace Award winner and has been a dedicated teaching artist in New York City since 1998, sharing her passion for the arts with the next generation.
