Ondřej Trojan was born on December 31, 1959, in Prague, Czech Republic. He hails from an artistic family, with his father Ladislav Trojan and younger brother Ivan being renowned Czech actors. After completing his studies at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU) in 1991, Trojan made his debut in the film industry with the movie "Let's Sing a Song," a collaborative effort with screenwriters Jan Hřebejko and Petr Jarchovský.
Trojan's subsequent feature film, "Želary," based on the short story by Jozova Hanula and penned by Květa Legátová, garnered widespread critical acclaim, earning eleven nominations for the Czech Lion Award and the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Oscar. In 2010, he ventured into directing and producing with his third film, "Identity Card." His fourth film, "Toman," was released in cinemas in 2018.
In addition to his work in film, Trojan is also a skilled theater director and actor. He has been associated with the legendary Prague Theater Sklep, where he has collaborated with notable figures such as Tomáš Hanák and Jiří Fero Burda. Together, they founded their own production and trading company, Total HelpArt T.H.A.
Trojan has also directed a television recording of the cellar adaptation of Václav Havel and Karel Brynda's play "Life Before Himself," which was presented by the Sklep Theater in an adapted version called "Mlýny." Furthermore, he has appeared in several small roles in films such as "Journey from the City," "Elf," "Farm Manager," "Gympl," and "The Decadent Visitor."
As a producer, Trojan has primarily collaborated with director Jan Hřebejk, with whom he has worked on a range of projects, including the films "Pelíšky," "We Must Help Ourselves," "Pupendo," "Up and Down," "Beauty in Trouble," "Teddy Bear," and "Good to Me."
