Óscar Quispe Catacora was a multi-talented Peruvian filmmaker, born on August 18, 1987, who left an indelible mark on the film industry before his untimely passing on November 26, 2021.
At just 17 years old, Quispe Catacora produced his first experimental short film, Unforgivables, marking the beginning of his journey as a filmmaker. Over the next few years, he collaborated with Cine Aymara Studios to produce several more experimental short films, honing his craft and establishing himself as a rising talent.
In 2009, Quispe Catacora created his first experimental medium-length film, El Sendero del Chulo, shot on video and showcasing his unique visual style. This was followed by his debut feature film, Wiñaypacha, released in 2017, which gained widespread recognition and accolades at numerous international film festivals, even representing Peru at the prestigious Goya and Academy Awards.
Tragically, Quispe Catacora's life was cut short due to appendicitis in November 2021, just as he was working on his final film, Yana-Wara, which was released posthumously in 2023. Despite his untimely passing, Quispe Catacora's legacy lives on through his remarkable body of work, which continues to inspire and captivate audiences around the world.
