Özcan Alper, a Turkish director and screenwriter, was born in 1975 in the Hopa district of Artvin. He attended Trabzon High School and later enrolled in Istanbul University, initially pursuing a degree in Physics before switching to the Faculty of Letters, Department of History of Science, where he graduated in 2003.
Throughout his early years, Alper participated in various cinema workshops, including those held at the Mesopotamia Cultural Center and the Nazim Culture House, now known as the Nazim Hikmet Cultural Center, starting from 1996.
From 2000 onwards, Alper worked as an assistant on several film projects, including those directed by Yesim Ustaoglu.
As a director, Alper has helmed a number of notable projects, including the short film "Momi," which was shot on location in Hemsin, and the documentaries "Tokai City'de Melankoli ve Rapsodi/Melancholy and Rhapsody in Tokai City," which was shot in Japan, and "Bir Bilimadamiyla Zaman Enleminde Yolculuk / A Journey through the Time Latitude with a Scientist."
Alper's first feature-length film, "Sonbahar/Autumn," was released in December 2008 and went on to win numerous awards at various film festivals.
In 2022, Alper released the Netflix original film "Asiklar bayrami," which premiered to a wide audience. He also had a film, "Karanlik Gece," selected to compete at the Antalya Film Festival.
