He married Phyllis Dolores Showalter, the daughter of Earl W. and Bertie (Calvert) Showalter, on September 27, 1941, in Summit County, Ohio, with both being 17 years old, although Jack's age is recorded incorrectly as "17 years of age on the 6 day of December 1940".
Phyllis was born on September 27, 1923, and passed away on March 5, 1981. The couple's marriage was childless and ended in divorce on September 22, 1954. Jack then married his second wife, Lisa Davis, a co-star, on June 28, 1958, with whom he had three children.
