Paul Hunt, a filmmaker with a prolific career spanning over five decades, began his journey in 1965 under the pseudonym H.P. Edwards. His first film, "The Psychedelics," was released in 1966, followed by a string of other films, including "Blow the Man Down" in 1968, "Jefferson Hotel" in 1966, "Sweet Smoke" in 1967, and over 60 more.
As H.P. Edwards, Hunt worked as a cinematographer, gaffer, sound recordist, and editor on numerous films, including those directed by Bethel Buckalew, William Rotsler, Gary Graver, Manuel Conde, and Lee Frost. His own directorial debut, "Blue Surfari," was a surfing docudrama released in 1967, starring Ricky Grigg.
Hunt also founded and operated several film companies, including Canyon Films, Pacific International Pictures Inc., Filmmakers International Releasing Inc., and United Filmmakers Inc. In 1970, he began working with the legendary Orson Welles on "The Other Side of the Wind," a project that would span several decades and result in multiple collaborations.
Throughout his career, Hunt served as Welles' production manager, gaffer, sound recordist, actor, and editor on various films, including "F for Fake" (1973) and "The Magic Show" (1983). He also worked as director of photography on the films "Mata Hari" (1985),which was produced by Ismail Merchant and starred Calista Carradine, Bruce Carradine, and Nikolai van der Heyde, and another film in The Netherlands, which was produced by Hunt himself.
Paul Hunt's extensive career has been marked by his versatility, creativity, and dedication to the art of filmmaking. He has worked on over 60 films, including underground classics, documentaries, and feature films, and has collaborated with some of the most renowned directors and producers in the industry.
