Paul Schackman grew up in the vibrant city of Los Angeles, where he was the oldest of two brothers. Prior to pursuing a career in acting, he had a diverse array of experiences, including being a competitive swimmer, a horseback riding instructor, and even a door-to-door encyclopedia salesman. He began his academic journey at the University of California, San Diego, initially studying pre-med, but it was during his time at UCSD that he stumbled upon an acting class, which sparked a passion that would ultimately lead him to become a professional actor.
Throughout his career, Schackman has had the opportunity to star in and direct numerous theater productions, earning critical acclaim for his performance as the Doctor in the 2004 revival of Tom Cole's Medal Of Honor Rag, where he shared the stage with the late Heavy D and was directed by the talented Delroy Lindo. His television debut came in 1990 on the original Beverly Hills, 90210, and since then, he has appeared in dozens of films and television shows.
Schackman's impressive filmography includes his portrayal of iconic film composer Bernard Herrmann in the 2012 film Hitchcock, opposite Academy Award winners Helen Mirren and Anthony Hopkins, as well as his work alongside Steve Carell in Woody Allen's 2016 film Café Society. In addition to his work in front of the camera, Schackman is also a well-respected Hollywood acting teacher and coach, sharing his expertise with aspiring actors.
