Peter Douglas Molyneux OBE is a renowned English video game designer and programmer. He is the founder of 22Cans and has created several iconic games, including Populous, Dungeon Keeper, Black & White, Theme Park, the Fable series, Curiosity - What's Inside the Cube?, and Godus.
Molyneux's career in the gaming industry began in 1982 when he started distributing and selling floppy disks containing video games for Atari and the Commodore 64. He later founded Bullfrog Productions in 1987 with his business partner Les Edgar, and their first game was a conversion of Druid II: Enlightenment. The company's success led to the creation of the first god game, Populous, which sold over 4 million copies.
In 1994, Electronic Arts (EA) acquired Bullfrog, and Molyneux became an EA vice-president and consultant. He left Bullfrog in 1997 to found Lionhead Studios, where he created Black & White and the Fable series. In 2006, Lionhead was acquired by Microsoft Game Studios, and Molyneux became the Creative Director of Microsoft Game Studios, Europe.
Molyneux is known for his enthusiasm and over-enthusiastic descriptions of games under development, which sometimes struggle to meet expectations. He has apologized for overhyping some of his games and has stated that he will not conduct further interviews with the press.
In 2012, Molyneux left Lionhead and Microsoft to start 22Cans, where he has been working on various projects, including Godus and The Trail. He has also announced a new game titled "The Legacy" that is currently in pre-production.
Throughout his career, Molyneux has appeared on numerous television shows and video gaming news discussion programs, including GamesMaster, Games Wars, Gamezville, Bad Influence!, Gamer.tv, and Games World. He has also given keynote addresses and spoken extensively at worldwide conferences, including Games Convention, Games Convention Asia, Develop, and the Game Developers Conference.
