Biography

Peter Rees, a renowned television producer, has spent the last fifteen years building a reputation for innovative content, pioneering production models, and consistent ratings success.

Between 2000 and 2006, Rees created, cast, and executive produced the award-winning science series MythBusters on Discovery Channel. Under his guidance, the show produced seventy episodes, twelve specials, and was broadcast on every continent in eleven languages. During his tenure as executive producer, MythBusters became the number one ad-supported cable program in US prime time among persons 25-54, with over 8 million US viewers tuning in for the 2005 Shark Week "Jaws" special.

Prior to MythBusters, Rees developed, produced, wrote, and directed over 30 hours of factual television programming for international broadcast. His work spanned a wide range of topics, from the ancient practice of intentional human cranial deformation to the discovery of the deadly "assassin caterpillar" of Brazil. Rees' programs have won numerous industry awards and honors, including the 2005 Silver Dragon from the Beijing International Science Festival.

As an adventurer, experimenter, and presenter in his own right, Rees has circumnavigated the globe by land and sea, winning the Charles Heidsieck International Travel Challenge in 1993. He has delivered presentations on science and broadcasting issues for various organizations, including the International Skeptics Society, the World Congress of Science and Factual Producers, and on behalf of the Discovery Channel.

Rees was born on a Naval base in Death Valley, California, but grew up in Sydney, Australia. He is a graduate of the Australian Film, Television and Radio School, holding a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature/Historical Archaeology, a Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Studies, and is qualified to operate a forklift and safely handle a handgun in the State of California.

In 2006, Rees orchestrated a successful Guinness World record attempt, transforming a Danish family car into an aircraft, a rocket-powered hydroplane, and a dragster.
