Person Biography:
Phedon Papamichael, a renowned Cinematographer, was born in Athens, Greece, and later moved to Germany with his family. He completed his education in Fine Arts in Munich in 1982. Papamichael's career in cinematography began in 1983 as a photojournalist in New York City, where he started working on short and experimental films.
He earned recognition for his work on the short film "SPUD," which won the Award for Best Cinematography at the Cork Film Festival in Ireland. Following a call from his cousin and collaborator, John Cassavetes, Papamichael moved to Los Angeles and began working as a Director of Photography for Roger Corman, shooting seven films within two years.
Papamichael's extensive credits include over 40 feature films, including blockbusters like "While You Were Sleeping" and "Cool Runnings," as well as critically acclaimed films like "Unstrung Heroes" and "Unhook the Stars." He has also worked on several music videos, including "The Ground Beneath Her Feet" and "Electrical Storm."
In addition to his feature work, Papamichael has shot and/or directed over 100 commercials for clients such as Nespresso, BMW, Audi, and Nextel. He has also worked on several television projects, including the mini-series "Wild Palms" and the pilot "White Dwarf."
Papamichael holds German, Greek, and U.S. citizenship and is fluent in English, German, French, and Greek. He resides in both Los Angeles and Athens, Greece.
