Philippe Muyl, a French visionary, has woven a tapestry of creative endeavors as a screenwriter, director, and producer. His academic background in philosophy, graphic arts, and advertising laid the foundation for a successful career in advertising, where he honed his skills for many years. However, his artistic inclinations soon compelled him to venture into the realm of filmmaking, and he founded a production company to produce captivating advertising spots.
Muyl's foray into feature films began with the drama "The Tree under the Sea" in 1985, a milestone that marked the beginning of his illustrious career. He then went on to create a string of critically acclaimed films, including "Kitchen with Apartment" (1993),"Everything must go" (1997),"The Cow and the President" (2000),"The Butterfly" (2002),and "Magic" (2008). These films showcased his versatility and mastery of various genres.
In 2013, Muyl released "The Nightingale", a Franco-Chinese co-production that took audiences on a breathtaking journey through China's majestic mountain villages. This critically acclaimed film, which premiered at esteemed festivals such as Busan, Deauville, and Palm Springs, marked a significant milestone in Muyl's career as he became the first non-Chinese director to shoot a completely Chinese film. The film's success was further solidified when it was selected as the Chinese entry for the 2015 Oscar competition.
