Raj Kumar Gupta is a renowned Indian filmmaker, writer, and producer, known for his critically acclaimed and commercially successful films such as Aamir, No One Killed Jessica, Raid, and Pill. He made his remarkable debut with the 2008 film Aamir, a critically acclaimed and commercially successful thriller shot on a shoestring budget and guerrilla style on the streets of Mumbai.
Following his debut, Gupta penned the screenplay for Barah Aana in 2009 and then wrote and directed No One Killed Jessica in 2011, a powerful drama based on the true story of the murder of Jessica Lal and the controversial trial that followed. The film drew rave reviews and set the box office ringing, earning several prestigious award nominations.
In 2013, Gupta surprised his audience with the suspense comic caper Ghanchakkar, starring Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan. The film drew a divided response from critics and viewers but confirmed that Gupta was not one to play by the conventional rules set by the industry.
Gupta expanded his horizons by producing the short film Aaba in 2016 under his production house Raapchik Films. The film premiered at the Berlin Film Festival 2017 and won the prestigious International Jury Prize for Best Short Film.
