Reem Morsi is a multifaceted creative force, simultaneously working as a writer, director, and producer. Her career trajectory is a testament to her versatility and dedication to her craft. Born in Egypt, Morsi now resides in Canada, the United States, and Egypt, allowing her to draw inspiration from diverse cultures and experiences.
Prior to embarking on a career in filmmaking, Morsi worked as a professional scuba diver and a human rights officer at the United Nations and other international organizations for a decade. This background unique has undoubtedly influenced her approach to storytelling and her ability to tackle complex themes.
Morsi's first feature film as a writer, director, and producer is the multi-genre feature film Hysteria, which premiered in 2022. This cinematic masterpiece weaves together three stories that explore the theme of Islamophobia, showcasing Morsi's mastery of Magical Realism, Comedy, Psychological Thriller, and Horror.
In addition to Hysteria, Morsi has directed the thriller/drama The Last Mark, which was selected for TIFF Selects in 2021. Her work in television includes directing two episodes of the CBC Gem series "Virgins," including the series finale, which was released in 2022. Morsi's third feature film, "Queen Tut," is set to be released in 2022, further solidifying her position as a rising star in the film industry.
Morsi's feature film script, Bootleg, has received critical acclaim, winning the Rainin script-writing grant and the Telefilm Canada New Voices Award at the Toronto Screenwriters Conference in 2017. She was also selected as one of the 10 participants at the Berlinale Script Lab in 2018 and participated in the Realness Pan African Screenwriting Residency and the Cannes Film Festival Atelier des Cinemas du Mondes.
Morsi's extensive film credits include Their Feast, Nostalgia, The Door, Show & Tell, and Fish, which won the Canadian National Genre Competition by WIFTV. Her work has been recognized at various film festivals, including TIFF, BBC, Cine Sud, Whistler, Yorkton Film Festival, and the Golden Sheaf Awards.
