Richard Geiwitz is a renowned filmmaker with an impressive body of work, having collaborated with cult horror director Don Dohler on three projects: "The Alien Factor" in 1978, "Fiend" in 1980, and "Nightbeast" in 1982. Not only did he act in all three films, but he also served as the cinematographer for "Fiend" and "Nightbeast", showcasing his versatility as a filmmaker.
Geiwitz has an extensive portfolio, having completed over 30 features, shorts, pilots, and treatments, earning him an astonishing 380 contest laurels. His comedy-crime script, "Through a Glass Ceiling, Darkly", was a Second Rounder at the 2023 Austin Film Festival, while his grounded sci-fi script, "Darwin Rising", landed in the Top 20% at the 2020 Nicholl Fellowship.
One of his notable achievements is his sci-fi script, "The Last Prison", which won the Wildsound contest in 2017 and received a Table Read. The early version of the script is available on YouTube, and it's currently ranked in the Top 9% on Coverfly. Additionally, 14 of his scripts are ranked in the Top 25%.
Geiwitz has also ventured into low-budget filmmaking, writing and directing two zero-budget features, "Glass Houses" in 2003 and "The Coming" in 2008, which are available on YouTube.
Before pursuing a career in filmmaking, Geiwitz earned degrees in Mass Communication and Asian Studies from Towson University, twice. He also has a background in journalism, having worked as a newspaper, radio, and TV reporter.
