Rick, a talented individual, was born in Oakland, California, and spent his formative years in Auburn, where he completed his secondary education at Placer High School. His father, Donald, a retired California Highway Patrol officer, currently resides near Yosemite National Park with his second wife and children. Rick has a sister, Lori, and three half-sisters, Jessica and Suzi, as well as a half-brother, Jonathan. Jessica is currently a cadet at the prestigious United States Military Academy, West Point. Suzi and Jonathan attend public schools in Central California, while Lori resides in Northern California.
Music held a special place in Rick's heart, and he had a passion for it. He organized several local bands and was an exceptional lead guitarist and songwriter. Although he did earn income through movie appearances, music was not a career path he pursued. His closest friend at the time of the tragic car accident that took his life was producer Jimmy Maslon, with whom he had been living in Hollywood. The driver of the vehicle, who was considered a friend of Rick's, was under the influence and fled the scene on foot after colliding with a fixed object, leaving Rick to succumb to his injuries. The passenger in the rear seat suffered major injuries, narrowly escaping death.
