Ritesh Batra, a talented filmmaker, gained worldwide recognition in 2013 with his remarkable debut feature film, The Lunchbox, a poignant romantic comedy that beautifully captures the essence of Mumbai, a city torn between tradition and progress. This critically acclaimed film, lovingly referred to as "Dabba", was a remarkable start to Batra's career, hinting at great things to come.
Born in 1979 in Mumbai, Batra spent his formative years in the city before moving to New York to pursue his passion for cinema. Prior to the success of The Lunchbox, he experimented with short films, which were showcased at numerous international film festivals.
Batra's subsequent work, Café Regular, Cairo, earned him the prestigious International Film Critics Association Award (FIPRESCI) and received special mentions from the jury at the Chicago and Tribeca Film Festivals.
In 2009, his project, initially titled "Story of Ram", was selected by the Sundance Screenwriters and Directors Lab, eventually evolving into The Lunchbox. Following the completion of the film, Batra chose to settle in Mumbai with his wife Claudia.
In 2013, he was working on a series of shorts and his next feature film, The Photograph, showcasing his versatility and dedication to his craft.
