Robert Manuel, a stalwart member of The Comédie-Française, embarked on his illustrious stage career at the tender age of eighteen in 1933, making his debut in Gabriel Pierné's "Fragonard". This milestone marked the beginning of a remarkable journey, allowing Manuel to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of his debut in October 1983.
At the time, he took on the role of Liberio Bocca, a whimsical elderly gentleman, in Aldo Nicolai's "Le Soleil n'est plus aussi chaud qu'avant", which was later adapted for television. Manuel's extensive repertoire includes an array of notable plays, such as "Hello Dolly", "Barnum", and "Ceux qui font les Clowns".
Beyond his accomplishments on stage, Robert Manuel was also the proprietor of a renowned restaurant, "Wall Street", located on Quai Kennedy.
